Mass. has now turned the corner. I hope the members of congress who want to just go their own way will sit up and take notice. The people do have one power left, and that is the power to vote out people who won't listen to the people they are representing.
That also means that we, the people, need to do just that. Look for conservative people to vote into office come November 2010. We can affect change by using the voting box. Hang in there.

War on Terror

Oh, I'm sorry, we're not supposed to say war on terror any more. We're just supposed to sit back and let our country be destroyed and our people be attacked and killed. I think anyone who attempts to carry out an act of terror on our country should be taken out and hung or shot. They should not be afforded the same rights as United States citizens. THEY AREN'T!

And what's the deal with this health care debacle? Why do our representatives in congress think they can just pass any old bill without the consent of the people? Arrogance and greed, I think.

I am also concerned now about this bill in the Michigan legislature that will supposedly give money to the schools...not all the schools...more to the urban schools. I have no problem with money coming to schools, any schools, but money does not come without strings if it is "given" out by the government, and this one has some pretty ugly strings.

The popular thing to think these days is that all students should perform outstandingly on standardized tests and if they don't, it's the teacher's fault. That is one of the "strings" on the money. Teachers and administrators are to be evaluated every year to see if their students are performing up to par on the "tests." Being a teacher, I can attest to the fact that I give my all every day to try to educate my students, but here is my problem: I have students who have been drinking or drugging before they come to school; I have students who were up all night playing video games because their parent either wasn't home or wasn't paying attention; I have students whose parents are in the middle of a messy divorce and they are trying to move into one home or the other; I have students whose levels of abilities are barely above fifth grade in with students who are college bound, and I have to make sure that all the students get treated according to their various abilities; I have students who can't sit still for ten minutes and are constantly moving, talking, drumming on their desk, etc.; I am interupted by students needing to go out of the classroom for a variety of reasons, students being called out of class for a variety of other reasons; students who sleep in class; and students who just don't care and don't want to be in school.

In other words, I am being held accountable for results over which I have absolutely no control. This is not an equitable plan, and in fact, it only serves to give more control to the government. I mean, after all, they do such a great job of doing what they already have responsibility for, don't they?

The Call

We just received an e-mail from a good friend that included the following information: "At the present moment, the second largest abortion facility in the world, next to China, is being built in Houston, Texas. This six-story, 78,000 sq. ft. Planned Parenthood abortion 'Super Center' is right in the middle of four minority neighborhoods. Three of these neighborhoods average an 85% Hispanic population and the fourth is 80% Black-American. The third floor is dedicated to late-term abortions. Obviously, Planned Parenthood is targeting these minority communities and families to fuel their abortion industry." This information comes from a web site entitled www.thecall/crisis.
Respect for ALL life should be at the heart of everything we do, and yet our own government is pushing toward allowing abortions to be funded by our tax dollars as a part of the fiasco known as the health care reform bill. It makes me angry and I then wonder what I can do about it. As I mentioned before, we have contacted our congressmen with no satisfaction. It may come to refusing to pay part of our taxes that might be going to fund this abomination in order to get our point across. However, for the time being, we can pray...and pray, and pray, and pray...that God will intervene and not allow this evil to go forward.

New Year

Almost another new year. I hope everyone has had and will have a great one. Historically, this may be a significant time. I can't help but be concerned with our country and how it is headed. It seems as though there is no such thing any more as a "public servant" when it comes to our congress. Obviously, if you look at the results since the Dem's have taken over, they do NOT serve the public. They serve themselves, and to the devil with the people they are supposed to be serving. Numerous times, when we have contacted our senators and representatives, we have received nothing but a canned response to the effect that "we will do what we think is best, despite the opinion and wishes of the majority of our constituents." That is NOT public service, that is partisan politics as usual...no, not as usual, WORSE than usual. What happened to the "change" that was promised. It was all a deception. All I can say is, don't blame me, I didn't vote for him.

Again it's a new month. I made it through all the inauguration hype all right, but I'm watching with interest as our new president experiences some of the real difficulties of trying to get things done. I am very nervous about how vulnerable our country is with this inexperienced leader.
As always, it is my concern that the abortionists will continue to murder babies and call it a choice. The Freedom of Choice Act, which should really be called the Federal No-Limits-On-Abortion Bill, will likely make it even easier to do any kind of abortion you want at any time you want. Make no mistake. This is not pleasing to God, and a country that kills the innocent will not continue to stand strong, Life is one of the guarantees of our constitution. When that begins to fall, so goes our country.

So...it's a new year. I hope this one turns out better than my expectations. I believe we're in for some rough times. Everyone seems to want stuff, but no one seems willing to make the sacrifices necessary to get the stuff. I am afraid that my generation started the "me-first" culture, and I am ashamed of that.
It is my opinion that the original sin was just that -- "I want." As humans we can't seem to understand that selfishness IS our sin nature. If we serve the Lord, our primary obstacle is to get beyond our "self" and think of God first and others second. Ourselves should come at least third if not further down the list.
Most of the world's problems are caused by people being selfish...selfish for money, power, things, attention, etc. The list goes on and on. This is going to be hopefully one of my major concerns this year: to try to prioritize my life so as to become more pleasing to the Lord.

It's been a while, but I thought I'd write. I have obviously been concerned by the political scene. I was watching Bill O'Reilly last night and he had a segment on the church in Michigan that was disrupted by a group of gays and lesbians during their worship service. I wonder if the group who did the disrupting realizes that that sort of thing hurts rather than helps their cause. My impression of the church where they were is that the church would have gladly welcomed them into their worship regardless of their sexual orientation had they come in to join the worship. Instead they chose to interrupt the program and make a nuisance of themselves.

A lot has been said about the gay and lesbian agenda. The way I look at it is that they are people. I don't happen to agree with their lifestyle, but God loves them just as He loves everyone. However, it is not in keeping with acceptable behavior according to the Bible, so I must disagree with that lifestyle. That does not mean that I mean them harm in any way. It just means that, just as I wouldn't agree with an alcoholic lifestye, I don't agree with theirs.

I hope that those radicals who would participate in this sort of disruptive activity do not represent the majority of gays and lesbians, and that they will find other means of expressing their beliefs than attacking innocent people.

Here we are at the beginning of a new week with all its possibilities.

Things are very interesting on the national front. However, I try to ignore the news media, except for Fox. Fox seems to be a bit more balanced in their reporting...a good thing for conservatives like me.

I have been reading George Orwell's Animal Farm as I prepare to teach the second semester of the English 12 class. How apropos! If you have never read it, do. Even though it was written about the Russian Revolution, there are so many things that can connect to our world today. I'll have more to write when I finish the book.

Another good book is Feed by M. T. Anderson. Only one caution: there is language that is not normally my choice for books that I read. However, on the surface where it seems like it is about teens in the future, there are some issues that have to do with government intrusion into the lives of the individual in the country.

Done for now...have a great day!

This is the day...

Presidential Election

I can't say I am thrilled with how the election turned out. I do wish the president-elect well and I will pray for him as I always have our presidents. However, although I would never say this out loud, I believe the time will come when those of us who voted for McCain will be able to say "I told you so."
God does allow things to go forward, even though they may not be the best, because ultimately they are working for His purpose.
I do fear for our country in this way.
